The Las Vegas knights opened up their 2008-2009 winter season
with a 8-4 victory over the Arizona Heat on Saturday.
The Heat (1-1) were looking to extend their record to 2-0.
The Las Vegas scoring was led by Manny Kouhaiz,
who had two goals, 3 assists and Derik van Gessel
who had two goals and one assist.
Ryan Purtell slammed a free kick past the Arizona keeper for his only goal. Rene Abrego and Juan Romero also contributed with one goal each. Luis Suarez scored while being challenged strongly by Heat defenders.
The goalkeeping for the Knights was split with Zeke Sanchez keeping Arizona to 1 goal in the first half. Tim Sisk followed up the second half and allowed 3 more goals.
Neither team played high pressure and seemed content to wait patiently to counter. However, with about 9 minutes left in the game the Heat subbed their keeper out and went with 6 attackers. It worked a little because Arizona scored three of their four goals that way.

The Knights next game will be against the San Diego Crew on January 10, 2009 at 7pm here in Las Vegas.
See you there!!
